Visiting Sabah Limau, Batu Brak

This is one of favorite things I always do, especially when I am right in front of my laptop. Revisiting the moment. I often spend much time to be drifted into my photograph atmosphere. If you wonder whether I believe in time machine or not, so the answer is yes, and here is the story I wanna try to tell you about. So after taking a long time to revisit all my photographs, I intend to write something about this. Photographs in this article are taken about 3 years ago. In case you wonder how we live in this town to enjoy the day.

There are so many things we can experience if only we give a try. After joining Sekura party in Batu Brak, we spared our time to visit our friend Marga in his hometown Pekon Awi, Batu Brak. He is our senior in the college who always provides us a place to stay before and after climbing the highest mountain in Lampung, Pesagi.

Marga’s house is the typical house of the native people of West Lampung. The house stands stretching along the road in the old village. It has 2 floors, many rooms, stairway inside and outside, many windows, a porch and wide yard usually for drying the coffee bean, paddy or black pepper. Beside the house, there are rows of firewood. Some are made of wood or half permanent in order to avoid the earthquake that often occurs here.

After talking a lot and enjoying some Lebaran cookies in the house, Marga invited us to go to his rice field in the valley not so far from his house. The valley is the great fault called Sesar Semangko that has been utilized by the native to cultivate rice. We passed through the farm, coffee plantation and going down the hill by the footpath.

Besides the rice, his family planted some vegetable such as eggplant and long bean. There we found Marga’s mom picking the long bean. The bean would be sold in sekura party following day. Fyi, sekura party is not jsut a party, but it seems like a market where everyone sells fruits, vegetables, and clothes with masked people around.

We did many things there like climbing the coconut tree although we failed, we played the catapult to keep the birds away from the paddy, and we helped Marga’s mom as well. We didn’t have our lunch yet, so we planned to cook the food. Then we tried to catch the fish in the small pond next to the hut and the we would burn the fish in the hut fireplace and cook the rice.

I guess, making food hot is one of way of how Indonesian enjoy the food more. So, Marga added and squeeze some red chili into the fish we burned before to make the food more delicious.
