LANY adalah band dreampop beranggotakan tiga orang yang berasal Los Angeles, terdiri dari Paul Klein, Jake Goss dan Les Priest. Grup ini dibentuk pada Maret 2014. Nama mereka adalah singkatan dari “Los Angeles New York.” Ketika Klein bertemu dengan anggota lain di Nashville dan terbentuklah LANY , Goss dan Priest meninggalkan proyek mereka sebelumnya yang disebut WRLDS. Sebulan kemudian, ketiganya turun ke Soundcloud dan mengunggah dua lagu secara anonim. Akronim adalah EP debut 3 lagu mereka, yang meningkatkan basis penggemar terutama karena lagu hit mereka “ILYSB.” Setelah mereka merilis dua single lagi, mereka mengungkapkan identitas mereka.
